Speech Therapy At LEWB

Learn English with Bathabile (LEWB) provides training to help adults and children (as young as three) with speech and language problems speak more clearly.

Our programme aims to develop speech muscles, improve pronunciation, and teach participants how to speak correctly. We offer two sessions, one for 45 minutes and the other for 60 minutes. The 45-minute session costs R185.00, and the 60-minute session costs R220.00.

The following therapy modalities are utilised in our programme:

• Exercises to produce certain sounds and improve the fluency of speech.

• Exercises to differentiate between individual sounds and syllables.

• Help with communication using white boards (or black boards) and computer-assisted speech.

• Support for implementing these measures in everyday life.

• Using a mirror to provide visual feedback on articulator placement and movement.

• Using gestural cues to indicate location or mode of production (for example, a long, sweeping hand motion for fricatives vs. a short, "chopping" gesture for stops).

• Amplifying target sounds to improve attention, reduce distractibility, and increase sound awareness. For instance, auditory bombardment with low-level amplification is used with the cycle approach at the beginning and end of each session to help children distinguish between target sounds and errors.

For the treatment to be effective in the long run, it is generally necessary to regularly practise the techniques at home.
